MISS AFRICA UNITED STATES 2007-2008

Mfonobong Imoediufen Essiet was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 16, 1985. She was raised by her parents, Dr. Fabian Essiet and Mrs. Nseabasi Essiet in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. She began schooling at Christ the King at the age of 3. She graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High School's Medical Magnet Program at the age of 15. On vacation in Nigeria, she obtained multiple injuries from a car accident. She contemplated the possibility of success after such an accident as classes at Florida International University began soon after being discharged from the hospital. She found strength in God through adversity and even managed to contribute to her undergraduate university.

With several leadership positions in numerous organizations, she became a well-rounded individual still focused on completing her undergraduate studies. Throughout those years, she volunteered with The Miami Children Foundation, Inc. as the tutorial coordinator and program director, hosting health seminars and awareness campaigns. She earned her Bachelors' Degree in Biological Sciences from Florida International University and is currently working towards her Masters' Degree in Biomedical Sciences at Barry University.

She has always been active in the American and Nigerian community assisting fellow peers and those in need, learning from her parents' giving spirit and personal values. She has focused on effectively spreading HIV/AIDS awareness and providing opportunities for those less fortunate through her involvement in several organizations in Africa and abroad.
